Description: Manages PKI certificate enrollment and participation including certificate request and CA interaction on Cisco devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-PKI-PARTICIPATION-MIB?

CISCO-PKI-PARTICIPATION-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB covering Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) operations on a networking device, including RSA key pair generation and trust point (CA) configuration used to obtain identity certificates for protocols like SSL, SSH, and IPSec/IKE. It exposes tables for RSA key pair attributes (name, size, exportability, storage type) and trust point definitions used for certificate enrollment with a Certificate Authority. Its monitoring value is centered on security configuration and software-managed credential state rather than physical hardware: administrators track key pair existence, size, and row status, and trust point configuration, to verify a device's identity certificates and CA enrollment are correctly provisioned and not left incomplete or insecurely configured (e.g., an exportable private key). It depends conceptually on X.509 PKI standards and works alongside protocols like SSL, SSH, and IKE that consume these certificates. It is deployed on Cisco routers, switches, and security appliances that need device identity certificates for secure management or VPN services. Engineers can download the CISCO-PKI-PARTICIPATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-PKI-PARTICIPATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router
  • Cisco switch
  • Cisco security appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk cpkiRSAKeyPairTable/cpkiRSAKeyPairEntry to check cpkiRSAKeyPairSize and cpkiRSAKeyPairExportable for each configured key pair, confirming key strength meets policy and that a supposedly protected key was not marked exportable. Reviewing cpkiTrustPointTable/cpkiTrustPointEntry for cpkiTrustPointName alongside cpkiRSAKeyPairConfigRowStatus would verify that a trust point's associated key pair was fully created rather than left in a pending row state. An unexpectedly small cpkiRSAKeyPairSize or an incomplete RowStatus would indicate a certificate enrollment that will fail or produce weak security.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RSA key pair size and name
  • key pair exportability flag
  • key pair/trust point row status
  • trust point (CA) configuration
