Category: Cisco Devices, IP and Core Protocols, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capabilities for the standard UDP MIB (RFC 4113) implementation on Cisco IOS and NX-OS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UDP-STD-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-UDP-STD-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring the level of conformance Cisco IOS and NX-OS agents provide for the standard UDP-MIB (RFC 4113), which itself provides UDP protocol statistics. As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module it defines no data objects, tables, or traps of its own — it only specifies which UDP-MIB groups and object variations a Cisco platform supports. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software state; the actual UDP statistics (such as datagrams in/out or listener table entries) would be monitored via the standard UDP-MIB itself, not this capabilities statement. It is entirely dependent on, and only meaningful in conjunction with, the standards-based UDP-MIB (RFC 4113) that it describes conformance for. It is used by network management systems during discovery to determine which UDP-MIB features are supported on a given Cisco IOS/NX-OS device, and engineers can download the CISCO-UDP-STD-CAPABILITY file to load into their MIB browser for reference.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UDP-STD-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS device
  • Cisco NX-OS device

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime objects of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe from it directly. A management system would instead read this module to learn which parts of the standard UDP-MIB (e.g., the UDP listener table) are implemented before attempting to poll actual UDP statistics from a Cisco IOS or NX-OS device.
