Description: MIB for SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) management in Cisco UCS, tracking disk slot endpoints and SCSI drive status on UCS storage components
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-SES-MIB?
This Cisco UCS Managed Information Model package MIB implements SCSI Enclosure Services management, exposing disk slot endpoint and physical drive presence/status information for storage components within UCS servers and chassis. It is directly hardware-health oriented, surfacing data such as whether a physical disk is present in a given slot, the disk's model, and its life-cycle/locator-code state. Administrators use this MIB to monitor physical disk hardware status, detecting missing, failed, or newly inserted drives in server or chassis storage enclosures, which is critical for RAID and storage health monitoring. It depends on the umbrella CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-MIB and ties into other UCS storage/equipment MIBs for a complete storage health picture. It is deployed in Cisco UCS blade and rack servers and their associated storage/disk enclosures. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-SES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-SES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco UCS blade servers
- Cisco UCS rack servers
- UCS storage/disk enclosures
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cucsSesDiskSlotEpTable / cucsSesDiskSlotEpEntry, checking cucsSesDiskSlotEpDiskPresent to detect whether a drive has been removed or has failed in a given slot (cucsSesDiskSlotEpId) within an enclosure (cucsSesDiskSlotEpEncId). The cucsSesDiskSlotEpLc and cucsSesDiskSlotEpModel fields help identify the specific drive and its current lifecycle state, useful for confirming a hot-swap replacement was recognized. A disk unexpectedly showing not present would trigger a hardware failure alert.
What Can Be Monitored
- disk slot presence/absence
- disk model identification
- disk locator code / lifecycle state
- enclosure-to-slot mapping
