Description: Manages LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) neighbor discovery and port advertisement within Cisco UCS infrastructure.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-LLDP-MIB?
This is a Cisco private MIB that is part of the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) management information model, focused on Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) neighbor discovery within UCS blade/server infrastructure. It exposes topology and adjacency data, specifically tables of LLDP-acquired neighbor information such as chassis and port MAC addresses, distinguished names, and acquisition timestamps for devices discovered on UCS fabric interconnect ports. Rather than hardware sensors like temperature or power, its monitoring value is verifying physical/logical connectivity health: confirming that expected neighbors are still visible, catching stale or missing LLDP entries that indicate a cable pull, port flap, or misconfigured uplink, and cross-checking the acquisition timestamp against expected refresh intervals. It builds on the standard LLDP protocol model and is one of many CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-*-MIB modules that together represent the broader UCS managed object model exposed via SNMP. It is deployed specifically on Cisco UCS fabric interconnects and UCS Manager-managed blade server domains in data center environments, typically beginning with a CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-LLDP-MIB download to load its object definitions into a MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-LLDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco UCS fabric interconnect
- Cisco UCS blade server chassis
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cucsLldpAcquiredTable/cucsLldpAcquiredEntry rows, keying off cucsLldpAcquiredDn, to see each discovered LLDP neighbor along with its cucsLldpAcquiredChassisMac, cucsLldpAcquiredPeerDn, and cucsLldpAcquiredPortMac. Comparing cucsLldpAcquiredAcqts against the current time reveals stale entries where a neighbor has stopped refreshing LLDP, which usually signals a link failure or unplugged cable on that UCS port. This lets operators detect topology drift in a UCS fabric without needing to log into UCS Manager directly.
What Can Be Monitored
- LLDP neighbor chassis MAC address
- LLDP neighbor port MAC address
- LLDP neighbor distinguished name (peer DN)
- LLDP entry acquisition timestamp
- LLDP-discovered topology adjacency
