Description: Declares agent capability statements for TCP connection and statistics management MIB on Cisco device platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-TCP-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-TCP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which objects of CISCO-TCP-MIB a given Cisco device's SNMP agent implements, covering Cisco-specific extensions to TCP connection and statistics management. It relates to the TCP/IP stack monitoring feature area on Cisco devices, supplementing the standard IETF TCP-MIB with Cisco-specific connection details. As a capability module it exposes no live TCP connection data itself; it tells management systems which CISCO-TCP-MIB connection-state or statistics objects a particular platform's agent actually supports. It is entirely dependent on its companion CISCO-TCP-MIB, and indirectly relates to the standard IETF TCP-MIB that it extends. It applies broadly across Cisco devices running an SNMP agent with TCP stack visibility, and is used by NMS tooling for capability discovery rather than direct operational monitoring. Engineers can download the CISCO-TCP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-TCP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral in general TCP scope, but a Cisco-specific capability declaration (applies to Cisco devices running an SNMP agent with TCP stack visibility)
Monitoring Examples
A network management system would query this capability module to determine whether a Cisco device supports CISCO-TCP-MIB's extended connection-table objects before polling them alongside the standard TCP-MIB. Since it defines no objects of its own, there is nothing to sample directly; it only confirms whether CISCO-TCP-MIB's Cisco-specific TCP connection details will be available on that platform. This lets an NMS decide whether to rely on CISCO-TCP-MIB or fall back to the standard TCP-MIB alone for connection monitoring.
What Can Be Monitored
- CISCO-TCP-MIB object support level
- extended TCP connection object support
- TCP statistics conformance group support
