Description: Manages service controller orchestration and service chaining configuration on Cisco network service platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SERVICE-CONTROLLER-MIB?

CISCO-SERVICE-CONTROLLER-MIB defines managed objects for the traffic controllers used by a Cisco service control entity, a network device that performs deep packet inspection and stateful, bidirectional flow monitoring to map traffic to users or services beyond simple packet counting. It belongs to the service-control/traffic-management technology area and exposes configuration and performance data for global bandwidth controllers, including configured bandwidth, bandwidth units, and current utilization, as well as aggregated controller groupings by network side. Its main monitoring role is tracking software-managed bandwidth allocation and utilization pressure across service-controller policies rather than physical hardware, letting operators see when a controller's traffic share is nearing its configured ceiling. It works alongside the broader Cisco SCE traffic-processor and traffic-processing MIB family (e.g. CISCO-SERVICE-CONTROL-TP-STATS-MIB) as part of the same platform. It is typically deployed on Cisco Service Control Engine platforms used for subscriber bandwidth management and policy-based traffic shaping. Engineers can download the CISCO-SERVICE-CONTROLLER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SERVICE-CONTROLLER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Service Control Engine (SCE)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cscGlobalControllersTable's cscGlobalControllersBandwidth and cscGlobalControllersUtilization (in the units given by cscGlobalControllersBandwidthUnits) per cscGlobalControllersId to see how close a given bandwidth controller is to its configured ceiling. Checking cscAggregativeGlobalControllersTable's cscAggregativeGlobalControllersAgcId and cscAggregativeGlobalControllersSide would show whether an aggregated controller grouping traffic from a particular network side (e.g. subscriber vs. network) is consistently near saturation, prompting a bandwidth reallocation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured bandwidth per controller
  • controller utilization
  • aggregated controller grouping by network side
