Description: Declares agent capability statements for Cisco Server Load Balancing (SLB) MIB implementations on Catalyst/CSM.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-SLB-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-SLB-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which objects and conformance groups of CISCO-SLB-MIB (Server Load Balancing) a given Cisco device's SNMP agent actually implements, rather than defining any monitored data itself. It belongs to Cisco's Catalyst/CSM (Content Switching Module) server load-balancing product area, used for distributing traffic across server farms. As a capability-declaration module it exposes no live counters or status values; instead it documents implementation coverage that network management systems use during SNMP discovery to know which SLB objects are safe to poll on that platform. Because it directly references CISCO-SLB-MIB, its entire purpose depends on that companion MIB and provides no standalone monitoring value without it. It is typically consumed internally by NMS/SNMP tooling on Cisco Catalyst switches or CSM modules that implement server load balancing, rather than used for direct hardware/software health monitoring. Engineers can download the CISCO-SLB-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SLB-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Catalyst switches / Content Switching Module (CSM) platforms implementing Server Load Balancing
Monitoring Examples
An SNMP manager doing capability discovery would fetch this module's AGENT-CAPABILITIES definition to learn which CISCO-SLB-MIB groups (such as server-farm or real-server status groups) are supported before attempting to poll SLB-MIB's tables. There are no sample objects of its own since it is purely a conformance/capability declaration for CISCO-SLB-MIB. A management tool would use it to avoid querying unsupported OIDs on a given Cisco SLB device, preventing wasted polling cycles or false 'not supported' errors.
What Can Be Monitored
- which CISCO-SLB-MIB object groups are implemented
- SLB agent compliance level
- supported SLB conformance groups
