Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment, SNMP Framework
Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for the CISCO-ERM-MIB Embedded Resource Manager implementation on Cisco platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ERM-CAPABILITY?
This is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which objects and groups of CISCO-ERM-MIB (the Embedded Resource Manager MIB, used for monitoring shared hardware resources like TCAM/ACL resources on Cisco platforms) are implemented by a given SNMP agent. It defines no runtime data objects of its own, functioning purely as a conformance statement for management system capability negotiation. Because it exposes no operational objects, it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware/software status itself, that responsibility belongs to CISCO-ERM-MIB, whose supported feature set this module documents per platform/software release. It is explicitly dependent on CISCO-ERM-MIB, the resource-manager MIB it describes agent conformance for. It is used internally during SNMP capability discovery on Cisco platforms implementing Embedded Resource Manager resource tracking. Engineers can download the CISCO-ERM-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ERM-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers/switches with TCAM/ACL-managed resources (Embedded Resource Manager)
Monitoring Examples
This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects; the sample_objects list is empty since it contains only capability declarations, not pollable resource-utilization data. Actual embedded resource monitoring (e.g., TCAM/ACL utilization) is performed via CISCO-ERM-MIB, which this module declares agent support for.
