Description: H4531-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H4531-MIB?

H4531-MIB is a vendor MIB for the COMET SYSTEM H4531 environmental monitoring unit, a device (branded 'comet' in the MIB tree) used to monitor ambient conditions such as temperature alongside digital inputs and relay outputs in equipment rooms, telecom cabinets, or other unattended sites. It exposes a temperature reading along with configurable low/high alarm thresholds, sample timing, and hysteresis, two relay outputs with associated alarm status, and multiple digital input channels. This is a hardware environmental-monitoring MIB in the purest sense: it is used to watch a facility's actual temperature and trigger an alarm when it exceeds or falls below configured thresholds, and to monitor the status of relay-driven alarm outputs (e.g. tied to a door contact, cooling fan, or external sensor) and general-purpose digital inputs. It is a standalone, self-contained vendor MIB with no apparent dependency on other MIBs. It is typically deployed in server rooms, telecom huts, and remote cabinets as a low-cost dedicated environmental/temperature sensor with SNMP alarm reporting. Engineers can download the H4531-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H4531-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • COMET SYSTEM H4531 environmental monitoring unit

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the temperature object continuously and compare it against tempLow and tempHigh to detect an over-temperature or under-temperature condition in a server room or cabinet, with tempHyst preventing alarm flapping near the threshold and tempTime indicating sample recency. relay1Alarm and relay2Alarm would be checked to see if either relay (relay1, relay2) has been triggered, for example by an external door or smoke sensor wired into the unit, while input1, input2, and input3 report the raw state of connected digital sensors such as door contacts or leak detectors. A sustained high temperature reading combined with a relay1Alarm being set would indicate a cooling failure requiring immediate attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ambient temperature
  • temperature alarm thresholds (low/high)
  • relay output alarm status
  • digital input states
  • temperature sample timing/hysteresis

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using relay1 OID:

Select a Comet System H4531 environmental monitoring unit as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type relay1 into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the relay 1 status. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
