Description: Tracks global MSU-level accounting statistics for ITP across all signaling links and routes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ITP-GACT-MIB?

CISCO-ITP-GACT-MIB is a Cisco proprietary module for the IP Transfer Point (ITP), a hardware/software platform that carries SS7 (Signaling System No. 7) telephony signaling traffic over IP networks, implementing measurements specified in ITU-T Q.752. It exposes global MSU (Message Signal Unit)-level accounting counters keyed by MTP3 (Message Transfer Part level 3) linksets, including in/out packet and octet counts per signaling link and route. In monitoring terms, it is used to track the health and performance of SS7 signaling links rather than device hardware status directly, letting operators watch traffic volume, drops, and utilization on each linkset to catch congestion or failing links before they impact call setup. It builds on the standard SS7 MTP3 model and is closely tied to Cisco's broader ITP MIB family for signaling point and route-set management. Typical deployment is in telecom carrier networks where Cisco ITP nodes act as SS7 signal transfer points bridging legacy telephony signaling with IP transport, and administrators can download the CISCO-ITP-GACT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ITP-GACT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP)
  • SS7 signal transfer point

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cgactMtp3Table (indexed via cgactMtp3TableEntry/cgactMtp3TableId) to retrieve per-linkset counters such as cgactMtp3InPackets, cgactMtp3OutPackets, cgactMtp3InOctets, and cgactMtp3OutOctets for a given cgactMtp3LinksetName, cgactMtp3Dpc (destination point code), and cgactMtp3Opc (origination point code). A sudden drop in cgactMtp3InPackets against a steady cgactMtp3OutPackets on one linkset would indicate a one-way signaling failure or upstream SS7 link outage. The cgactGttTable additionally tracks Global Title Translation activity, useful for auditing SS7 routing behavior.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MTP3 linkset inbound/outbound packet counts
  • MTP3 linkset inbound/outbound octet counts
  • destination and origination point codes per linkset
  • service indicator (SI) traffic breakdown
  • Global Title Translation activity

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cgactMtp3InPackets OID:

Select a Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP) SS7 signaling gateway (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cgactMtp3InPackets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The accumulated number of packets that have been received by this linkset, DPC and OPC combination since system startup. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in packets), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
