Description: Manages iSNS-based IP SAN topology discovery for mapping storage network entities.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ISNS-IP-NW-DISCOVERY-MIB?

CISCO-ISNS-IP-NW-DISCOVERY-MIB manages IP network discovery for disjoint IP networks connected to a Cisco Fibre Channel switch's Gigabit Ethernet interfaces within an iSNS "Fabric," part of Cisco's storage-networking (SAN/iSCSI) technology area. It exposes configuration and status data about discovered IP networks, the discovery mechanism used per network, and the mapping of Gigabit Ethernet ports to those networks. It is used to monitor the software status of automatic or manual IP network discovery on a SAN switch, confirming via ciscoIsnsIpNetRowStatus and ciscoIsnsIpNetInterfaceRowStatus that discovered networks and their associated interfaces remain correctly configured and active. It works alongside CISCO-ISNS-CLIENT-MIB and related iSNS/Fibre Channel standards to provide access-controlled target discovery across multiple IP networks in a fabric. It is typically deployed on Cisco MDS-series multilayer SAN switches that bridge IP storage networks (iSCSI) into a Fibre Channel fabric. Engineers can download the CISCO-ISNS-IP-NW-DISCOVERY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ISNS-IP-NW-DISCOVERY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MDS-series multilayer SAN switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator could poll ciscoIsnsIpNetTable/ciscoIsnsIpNetEntry to see each discovered IP network by ciscoIsnsIpNetName and its ciscoIsnsIpNetDiscoveryMechanism, then check ciscoIsnsIpNetInterfaceTable/ciscoIsnsIpNetInterfaceEntry (keyed by ciscoIsnsGigEPortDeviceName/ciscoIsnsGigEPortIfIndex) to confirm which Gigabit Ethernet ports are mapped to that network. Checking ciscoIsnsIpNetAutomaticDiscovery and ciscoIsnsIpNetDiscoveryInterval shows whether automatic discovery is enabled and how frequently it runs. A ciscoIsnsIpNetRowStatus other than active on an expected network would indicate a discovery or configuration failure preventing iSCSI initiators from finding their targets.

What Can Be Monitored

  • discovered IP network list
  • discovery mechanism per network
  • automatic discovery enable/interval
  • GigE port-to-network mapping
  • row/interface status
