Description: Manages SAN Tap service intercept configurations for storage traffic monitoring on Cisco MDS SAN switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SANTAP-MIB?

CISCO-SANTAP-MIB is a Cisco private MIB for managing the SanTap feature on Cisco MDS 9000-series Fibre Channel SAN switches, a fabric-based capability that intercepts and copies data flowing between storage initiators and targets. It exposes configuration data for SanTap-capable modules, service configurations, and the Control Virtual Target (CVT) and Data Virtual Target (DVT) objects, including their node and port World Wide Names (WWNs), that implement the SanTap control and data paths. It is used mainly to monitor and verify the software configuration status of SanTap services, such as which modules support SanTap (cstModuleTable), whether a given service configuration's row status is active, and the assigned CVT/DVT WWNs, confirming that data-copy interception is correctly provisioned and running. It relies on Fibre Channel WWN addressing conventions and works alongside Cisco's broader MDS SAN switch MIB family rather than any single external standard. It's typically deployed on Cisco MDS SAN switches in storage-area networks where administrators need continuous data replication, capture, or monitoring taps for storage traffic without disrupting the initiator/target path. Engineers can download the CISCO-SANTAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SANTAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MDS 9000 series SAN switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls cstModuleTable/cstModuleEntry (via cstModuleId) to see which SAN switch modules support SanTap, then checks cstServiceConfigTable/cstServiceConfigEntry and cstServiceConfigRowStatus to confirm a SanTap service is actively configured and not stuck in a notReady state. cstCVTNodeWwn and cstCVTPortWwn identify the Control Virtual Target used for service requests, while cstDVTConfigTable/cstDVTPortWwn identify the Data Virtual Target(s) actually copying storage traffic. A service configuration whose row status isn't active, or a CVT/DVT WWN that doesn't match the expected fabric zone, would indicate the SAN traffic tap is not functioning as intended.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SanTap-capable module list
  • service configuration status
  • CVT node/port WWN
  • DVT port WWN
  • service configuration row status
