Description: Implements the IETF VPLS LDP MIB for managing LDP-signaled Virtual Private LAN Service instances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IETF-VPLS-LDP-MIB?

CISCO-IETF-VPLS-LDP-MIB covers LDP-signaled Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), part of Cisco's L2VPN/MPLS product area, based on the IETF L2VPN-VPLS-LDP draft. It exposes a per-instance configuration table (cvplsLdpConfigTable) for LDP-signaled VPLS settings and a pseudo-wire binding table (cvplsLdpPwBindTable) linking each VPLS instance to its underlying pseudowires. Rather than physical hardware health, this MIB monitors the software/service status of the VPLS forwarding plane -- MAC address withdrawal activity and MAC-address-limit enforcement per pseudowire binding -- which reveal whether the L2VPN service is converging and forwarding correctly. It is built on the underlying MPLS pseudowire mechanisms and LDP signaling that must already be provisioned on the router. It is typically deployed on carrier-edge (PE) routers providing Ethernet multipoint service over an MPLS core. Engineers can download the CISCO-IETF-VPLS-LDP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-VPLS-LDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MPLS provider-edge (PE) routers/switches (e.g. ASR 9000, 7600 series) running LDP-signaled VPLS/L2VPN

Monitoring Examples

cvplsLdpConfigTable/cvplsLdpConfigEntry holds per-VPLS-instance LDP settings such as cvplsLdpConfigMacAddrWithdraw, while cvplsLdpPwBindTable/cvplsLdpPwBindEntry binds each instance to its pseudowires and enforces cvplsLdpPwBindMacAddressLimit. An operator polling cvplsLdpPwBindTable can confirm each pseudowire underlying a VPLS instance is bound and active, and watching learned MAC counts against cvplsLdpPwBindMacAddressLimit reveals when a customer site is approaching the configured limit. If cvplsLdpConfigMacAddrWithdraw is disabled, slow MAC re-convergence after a link flap on a remote PE would be an expected symptom to investigate.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VPLS instance LDP configuration
  • pseudowire binding state per VPLS instance
  • MAC address withdrawal activity
  • MAC address learning limit per binding
