Category: Cisco Devices, MPLS and Traffic Engineering

Description: Extends IETF MPLS LSR MIB with Cisco-specific label switching router statistics and configuration objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-MPLS-LSR-EXT-STD-MIB?

This MIB extends the IETF MPLS Label Switching Router (LSR) MIB with Cisco-specific cross-connect extensions for MPLS transport networks, part of Cisco's carrier/service-provider routing product line. It exposes extended cross-connect table entries linking label-switched paths to tunnels, opposite-direction pointers for bidirectional LSPs, and the associated notification and conformance groups. From a monitoring standpoint it is oriented toward the operational/configuration status of MPLS label-switched paths and cross-connects rather than classic hardware health metrics like temperature or CPU — it reveals tunnel-to-cross-connect associations and directionality mismatches in an LSR's switching fabric, and its notification group can alert on binding changes. It explicitly extends and depends on the standard IETF MPLS-LSR-STD-MIB, reusing its index structure. It is typically deployed on Cisco routers acting as MPLS label switching routers in service-provider core or edge transport networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-MPLS-LSR-EXT-STD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MPLS-LSR-EXT-STD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MPLS-enabled routers/LSRs
  • carrier-grade routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cmplsXCExtTable/cmplsXCExtEntry to see extended attributes of each MPLS cross-connect entry, using cmplsXCExtTunnelPointer to determine which MPLS-TE tunnel a given cross-connect belongs to. The cmplsXCOppositeDirXCPtr object lets an operator verify that a bidirectional LSP's forward and reverse cross-connects are correctly paired, revealing routing asymmetry or misconfiguration if the pointer is null or mismatched. cmplsLsrExtNotifications would fire an alert when such tunnel bindings change unexpectedly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MPLS cross-connect tunnel association
  • bidirectional LSP pairing
  • cross-connect entry status
  • tunnel pointer mapping
