Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment

Description: Provides management objects for external virtual machine manager (VMM) integration with Cisco UCS/Firepower platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-FIREPOWER-EXTVMM-MIB?

CISCO-FIREPOWER-EXTVMM-MIB is part of the Cisco UCS/Firepower model-based MIB family covering integration with an external virtual machine manager (such as VMware vCenter) used for distributed virtual switch provisioning. It exposes endpoint objects tracking the state of the integration, including finite-state-machine (FSM) fields that show provisioning progress and any remote invocation errors returned by the external VMM. This makes it a software-integration-status MIB, useful for monitoring whether the connection and configuration handshake between the Cisco platform and the external hypervisor manager is healthy or stuck/failing. Like sibling Firepower MIBs, it follows the shared Dn/Rn/InstanceId managed-object model of Cisco's UCS Manager information model rather than an external standards dependency. It is deployed on Cisco UCS/Firepower platforms integrated with VMware vCenter for VM-aware networking. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-FIREPOWER-EXTVMM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-FIREPOWER-EXTVMM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS/Firepower fabric interconnects integrated with a VMM (e.g. VMware vCenter)

Monitoring Examples

Polling cfprExtvmmEpTable/cfprExtvmmEpEntry, an admin can check cfprExtvmmEpFsmProgr and cfprExtvmmEpFsmStageDescr to see what stage the VMM integration handshake is at, and read cfprExtvmmEpFsmRmtInvErrCode/cfprExtvmmEpFsmRmtInvErrDescr to diagnose an integration that failed to register with vCenter, which would otherwise silently prevent VM-aware port profile provisioning.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VMM integration FSM progress/stage
  • remote invocation error code/description
  • endpoint integration status
