Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for extended Medium Attachment Unit management on Cisco network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-MAU-EXT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-MAU-EXT-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module declaring which objects of the CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB, an extension for Medium Attachment Unit management building on the standard IETF MAU-MIB for Ethernet physical-layer/transceiver management, a given Cisco device or software release supports. It contains no runtime monitorable data itself and serves purely as a compatibility statement for network management systems and MIB compilers. It therefore does not itself track uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, or physical-layer link status; those live in the CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB it describes. It is entirely dependent on, and only meaningful in the context of, the standard IETF MAU-MIB defined in RFC 3636 and the CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB extension. It is typically used during NMS integration to determine whether a Cisco device implements the extended MAU physical-port/transceiver monitoring objects, rather than being polled operationally. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-MAU-EXT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MAU-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco network device with Ethernet MAU/transceiver ports

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; it only enumerates which OBJECT-GROUPs of CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB the agent implements.
