Category: Alarm and Event Management, Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, SNMP Framework
Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for Cisco's 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) Ethernet OAM implementation.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ETHER-CFM-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-ETHER-CFM-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module describing which parts of the CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB, Cisco's implementation of 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management for Ethernet OAM, a given agent supports. It contains no runtime CFM data such as maintenance-domain status, loopback results, or continuity-check failures itself; it only declares feature support. It therefore has no direct monitoring role regarding link fault detection; that is provided by CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB (and the underlying IEEE 802.1ag / dot1agCfm MIB standard) which this module's capabilities reference. Its dependency is on that base CFM MIB and the IEEE 802.1ag standard it implements. It is used by NMS/MIB-compiler tooling that consults the CISCO-ETHER-CFM-CAPABILITY MIB to confirm which CFM features a given Cisco Ethernet platform supports.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ETHER-CFM-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Ethernet switch/router with 802.1ag CFM support
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only AGENT-CAPABILITIES clauses referencing groups within CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB and defines no pollable objects itself, so no runtime monitoring scenario can be honestly described here. Actual Ethernet OAM fault detection, continuity-check, and loopback data would be polled from CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB or the standard dot1agCfm MIB. This module exists solely to tell management tools which CFM capabilities a specific Cisco device implements.
