Category: Cisco Devices, Optical and WDM, SNMP Framework

Description: States SNMP agent capabilities for how Cisco platforms implement the Ethernet WAN Interface Sublayer (WIS) MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ETHER-WIS-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-ETHER-WIS-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module declaring which parts of the standard ETHER-WIS MIB (WAN Interface Sublayer for 10-Gigabit Ethernet WAN PHY) a given Cisco agent implementation supports. It contains no operational data itself; only capability statements referencing the base MIB's object groups. It has no direct role in monitoring WIS alarm status, framing errors, or performance counters; that runtime data lives in the standard ETHER-WIS MIB it describes support for. Its defining dependency is on the IETF/IEEE ETHER-WIS MIB standard for 10GE WAN-PHY interfaces. It is used by NMS/MIB-compiler tooling to determine which ETHER-WIS features a specific Cisco 10-Gigabit Ethernet WAN-PHY-capable platform implements. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-ETHER-WIS-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ETHER-WIS-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco 10-Gigabit Ethernet WAN-PHY interface card/router

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only AGENT-CAPABILITIES clauses referencing groups within the standard ETHER-WIS MIB and defines no pollable objects itself, so there is no runtime monitoring scenario to honestly construct from it. Actual WAN Interface Sublayer alarm, framing, and performance data would be polled from ETHER-WIS directly on a supporting Cisco 10GE WAN-PHY interface. This module's sole purpose is to declare which of those ETHER-WIS features a given Cisco platform supports.
