Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces

Description: Manages Ethernet Connectivity Fault Management (IEEE 802.1ag CFM) on Cisco devices, providing objects and notifications for end-to-end Ethernet OAM fault detection.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB?

CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB is a Cisco Systems, Inc. proprietary MIB (built on Q-BRIDGE-MIB) reporting Ethernet CFM (Connectivity Fault Management) events — an end-to-end per-service Ethernet OAM protocol covering MEP (Maintenance End-Point) coming up/going down/unknown/missing, continuity-check configuration errors, and forwarding loops. Its event table, keyed by domain/SVLAN/event index, records domain name, event type, last-change time, service ID, local/remote MEP ID and MAC address, local MEP/interface count, remote port state, and event code, alongside dedicated MEP-up/MEP-down/cross-connect/loop/config-error notifications. As a notification/status MIB it lets an administrator get alerted on CFM connectivity-fault events and inspect MEP state on a Cisco switch. It is deployed on Cisco Systems switching/routing equipment (Ethernet CFM). Engineers can download the CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ETHER-CFM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Systems switching/routing equipment (Ethernet CFM)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator receives a cEtherCfmCcLoop notification and reads cEtherCfmEventDomainName to locate a forwarding loop detected by Ethernet CFM on a Cisco switch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Ethernet CFM connectivity-fault events and MEP state
