Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for Network Admission Control Network Access Device functions on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-NAC-NAD-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-NAC-NAD-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which parts of the CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB (Network Admission Control, Network Access Device functions) are actually implemented by a given Cisco platform's SNMP agent. As an agent-capabilities module it does not itself define runtime data objects; instead it maps out variations and supported groups/compliance statements of the underlying CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB across different Cisco device implementations. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its purpose is purely descriptive/conformance, telling an NMS or MIB compiler which NAC NAD objects (e.g., posture validation, admission control state) are present on a given box so the actual CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB objects can be polled appropriately. It is entirely dependent on and meaningless without its companion CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB, which it describes. It is typically shipped alongside CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB on Cisco switches/routers acting as Network Access Devices in a Cisco NAC deployment. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-NAC-NAD-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-NAC-NAD-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco switches/routers acting as Network Access Devices (NAC NAD)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, not a source of runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe here; it only declares which objects/groups from CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB a given agent implementation supports.
