Description: Extends standard entity sensor management with Cisco-specific threshold alarms and sensor calibration objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-EXT-MIB?

CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-EXT-MIB is a Cisco Systems, Inc. proprietary MIB extending the standard ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB (RFC 3433) with configurable threshold-based sensor notifications for entities reported in ENTITY-MIB (RFC 4133). Its threshold table, keyed by sensor/index, records severity, relational operator, threshold value, an evaluation flag, and per-threshold/global notification-enable flags, alongside a threshold-crossing notification. As a configuration/notification MIB it lets an administrator define custom alert thresholds (e.g., a specific temperature or voltage limit) for any hardware sensor and get notified when crossed. It is deployed on Cisco Systems network equipment with ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB support. Engineers can download the CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Systems network equipment (ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator configures ceSensorExtThresholdValue and enables ceSensorExtThresholdNotifEnable to get alerted when a specific fan-tray sensor crosses a custom threshold on Cisco equipment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • custom sensor threshold configuration and crossing notifications
