What Is CISCO-DYNAMIC-TEMPLATE-MIB?

CISCO-DYNAMIC-TEMPLATE-MIB is a Cisco proprietary SNMP module for IOS/IOS-XE platforms that manages dynamic templates, reusable sets of configuration attributes that can be applied on the fly to a target, most commonly a subscriber-facing interface. It exposes a template table describing each template's name, storage type, source, status, and usage count, along with a target table mapping templates to the entities (currently interfaces) they are applied to. Its monitoring/management role is configuration and operational-state tracking rather than hardware sensors: cdtTemplateStatus and cdtTemplateUsageCount let an admin confirm a template is active and see how widely it is applied, while cdtTemplateTargetTable shows exactly which targets (by type and ID) currently have a given template bound to them. It builds on Cisco's broader subscriber-session and interface architecture since templates are applied to interface-like targets. It is typically deployed in Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) or edge-router environments doing dynamic, per-subscriber service activation such as bandwidth or QoS policy changes triggered by RADIUS/COA. Engineers can download the CISCO-DYNAMIC-TEMPLATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator troubleshooting inconsistent subscriber service would query cdtTemplateTable/cdtTemplateEntry for a given cdtTemplateName to check cdtTemplateStatus (active/inactive) and cdtTemplateUsageCount, then cross-reference cdtTemplateTargetTable/cdtTemplateTargetEntry using cdtTemplateTargetType and cdtTemplateTargetId to confirm which specific interface has that template applied. A usage count of zero when a subscriber policy change was expected to apply would indicate the template failed to bind to its target, while ciscoDynamicTemplateMIBNotifs would carry any related trap for template application failures. cdtTemplateSrc helps identify whether the template originated from local configuration or a dynamic source like RADIUS.
