Category: Cisco Devices, DSL and Broadband

Description: Manages DSL subscriber line provisioning on Cisco platforms, including profile assignment, speed limits, and service activation.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DSL-PROVISION-MIB?

CISCO-DSL-PROVISION-MIB manages provisioning of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) subscriber sessions on Cisco broadband aggregation platforms, specifically supporting creation of PPP-over-ATM sessions via Virtual Templates and Network Route Processors (NRPs). It exposes configuration data such as NRP IP address assignments per slot, virtual template numbers and their limits, and the mapping between NRP resources and virtual templates. This is a configuration/provisioning MIB rather than a fault or performance MIB, so its monitoring value lies in verifying that DSL subscriber provisioning resources (NRP slots, virtual templates) are correctly allocated and have not been exhausted, e.g. cdslMaxNrps and cdslMaxVirtualTemplates versus actual usage. It does not show a strong dependency on external standard MIBs beyond general Cisco conventions. It is deployed on Cisco broadband access/aggregation routers terminating large numbers of DSL subscriber PPPoA sessions. Engineers can download the CISCO-DSL-PROVISION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DSL-PROVISION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco DSL access/aggregation routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check cdslNrpIpAddressTable/cdslNrpIpAddressEntry keyed by cdslNrpSlotIndex to confirm each NRP slot has a valid cdslNrpIpAddress, and compare cdslVirtualTemplateNumberTable's configured virtual template count against cdslMaxVirtualTemplates to see if the router is approaching its provisioning ceiling. Approaching the cdslMaxNrps limit would signal that new DSL subscriber sessions may soon fail to provision on that chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NRP IP address assignment per slot
  • virtual template count vs. maximum
  • NRP slot allocation
  • DSL subscriber session provisioning capacity
