Description: Manages Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) ring configuration and status on Cisco industrial Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-MRP-MIB?

CISCO-MRP-MIB is a Cisco Systems proprietary MIB for monitoring Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) domains, a ring-topology recovery protocol used to interconnect redundant MRP rings/domains on industrial Ethernet networks. Its domain table, keyed by domain index, reports the domain ID, name, and current protocol state, alongside an object indicating whether the ring is open (broken) or closed. As a hardware/protocol-status MIB it lets an administrator confirm each MRP domain's ring is closed (healthy) and get early notification when a ring opens due to a link or device failure. It is deployed on Cisco industrial Ethernet switches using MRP for ring resiliency. Engineers can download the CISCO-MRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco industrial Ethernet switches using Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator monitors ciscoMrpRingOpen per domain to get immediate notice when a ring breaks, which MRP is designed to recover from automatically but which still warrants investigating the failed link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MRP domain state and ring-open/closed status
