Category: DSL and Broadband, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages DSL line diagnostic tests and loopback configuration on Ascend DSL equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBLINEDIAG-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBLINEDIAG-MIB is a proprietary Ascend MIB for running DSL line diagnostic tests and configuring loopbacks on DSL access equipment. It exposes objects to initiate line-level diagnostic tests and loopbacks and to read back the resulting pass/fail status for a given subscriber line. Like the B52 test MIB in this family, this is a hardware-diagnostics module: it directly supports verifying the physical health of a DSL copper loop by running an active test rather than passively watching counters. It works alongside the HDSL2 and other DSL line MIBs, which describe the line being tested. It was deployed on Ascend DSL access equipment for field technicians and NOC staff troubleshooting subscriber line faults. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBLINEDIAG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBLINEDIAG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend DSL access equipment

Monitoring Examples

A technician initiates a diagnostic loopback test on a specific DSL line via this MIB's test-control object, then polls the associated test-result object for a pass or fail outcome. A line that repeatedly fails the diagnostic test, especially alongside abnormal HDSL2 error-second counts, points to a physical copper fault such as a bad splice or moisture ingress. Diagnostic results are typically reviewed before dispatching a truck roll to the customer premises.

What Can Be Monitored

  • line diagnostic test initiation
  • loopback test configuration
  • test pass/fail result
  • per-line diagnostic status
