Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework, Wireless and WLAN

Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for the Cisco 802.11n High-Throughput MAC MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which specific objects and features of the companion CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-MIB (covering IEEE 802.11n High-Throughput MAC layer parameters) a given Cisco agent implementation actually supports. As a capabilities statement rather than a data-bearing MIB, it does not itself expose any monitorable runtime objects; instead it serves as a machine-readable compatibility declaration for network management systems. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its purpose is purely to describe implementation conformance for the wireless HT MAC MIB it references. Its entire purpose is to declare a dependency on CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-MIB, since an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module only exists to describe support for that target MIB's objects. It would be encountered in Cisco wireless infrastructure (access points/controllers) supporting 802.11n, loaded by management systems performing MIB-support discovery rather than direct data polling. Engineers can download the CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco 802.11n wireless access points/controllers (conformance declaration only)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, not a data-bearing MIB; it contains no runtime objects, tables, or counters to poll. Its sole function is to declare which objects and groups of CISCO-DOT11-HT-MAC-MIB a particular Cisco agent version implements, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe honestly beyond noting that management systems consult it during MIB capability negotiation rather than for operational data.
