Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management

Description: Facilitates copying configuration files to and from Cisco devices via SNMP, including transfers between running, startup, and remote configurations.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB?

CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB enables SNMP-driven copying of configuration files on Cisco IOS devices, supporting transfers between running configuration, startup configuration, the local IOS filesystem, and remote network servers. It exposes a request table where an operator specifies source/destination file types, server address, filename, and credentials, along with a state and completion notification for each copy operation. Its monitoring value is centered on software operation status: ccCopyState tracks whether a configuration copy job is in progress, succeeded, or failed, which is analogous to monitoring a background job/task queue rather than physical hardware. It is a purely Cisco-proprietary automation MIB with no dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed wherever administrators need to automate configuration backup/restore or firmware-adjacent file transfers on Cisco routers and switches via SNMP. This is a heavily searched Cisco MIB, since cisco-config-copy-mib is the standard reference for triggering and monitoring remote configuration/firmware copy operations on Cisco devices.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS router
  • Cisco IOS switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would create a row in ccCopyTable, keyed by ccCopyIndex, setting ccCopySourceFileType, ccCopyDestFileType, ccCopyServerAddress, and ccCopyFileName, then poll ccCopyState to see whether the copy operation succeeded, is running, or failed. ccCopyNotificationOnCompletion can be enabled so a trap fires when the job finishes, avoiding constant polling. A copy stuck in a running state or ending in a failed state would indicate connectivity or credential problems with the ccCopyServerAddress.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configuration copy job state
  • source and destination file types
  • transfer server address and filename
  • completion notification status
