Description: Manages IP lawful intercept configurations specifying traffic streams to be intercepted and delivered.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IP-TAP-MIB?

CISCO-IP-TAP-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB that manages the lawful-intercept (IP tap) feature on Cisco routers and switches, working together with CISCO-TAP2-MIB to define which IP traffic streams are intercepted and forwarded to law-enforcement collection points. It exposes stream-filter configuration objects: interface, source/destination address and address length, ToS byte and mask, and flow ID for each intercept stream entry, along with a capabilities object. It is used to configure and monitor the software-level state of active lawful-intercept taps -- confirming which filter criteria such as source/destination and ToS are currently applied to a stream -- functioning as a security/compliance configuration and status MIB rather than hardware health. It explicitly depends on CISCO-TAP2-MIB, which supplies the common stream table and intercept-type linkage, and replaces the older CISCO-TAP-MIB. It is typically deployed on Cisco routers/switches at service-provider or enterprise network egress points where lawful intercept of IP traffic is legally mandated. Engineers can download the CISCO-IP-TAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IP-TAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers and switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator or lawful-intercept management system would create an entry in citapStreamTable/citapStreamEntry, setting citapStreamInterface, citapStreamDestinationAddress/Length, and citapStreamSourceAddress/Length to define the traffic to intercept, along with citapStreamTosByte/Mask for ToS-based filtering. Checking citapStreamFlowId and cross-referencing the corresponding CISCO-TAP2-MIB stream entry confirms the intercept is correctly linked and actively capturing matching flows.

What Can Be Monitored

  • intercept stream filter configuration
  • source/destination address filter
  • ToS byte filter
  • interface being tapped
  • flow ID of intercepted stream
