What Is CISCO-ATM-QOS-MIB?

CISCO-ATM-QOS-MIB is a Cisco-specific module for the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networking technology area, originally driven by requirements for the GSR TAZ line card but designed as a generic MIB for ATM interfaces across Cisco platforms. It exposes configuration and status data for Quality of Service parameters on ATM virtual circuits (VCs) and virtual paths (VPs), including traffic shaping rates and per-VC queuing/buffering settings. This makes it useful for monitoring the operational health and performance of ATM QoS enforcement on a device, such as verifying configured peak and sustained cell rates are being honored and that per-VC buffer/queue behavior matches policy, which helps detect misconfiguration or congestion-related service degradation. It builds on the standard ATM-MIB and Cisco's broader ATM interface MIB family for interface indexing and VC/VP identification. It is typically deployed on Cisco ATM switches and ATM-capable routers (such as GSR platforms with ATM line cards) in carrier or enterprise ATM backbone networks. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll caqVccParamsTable (indexed via caqVccParamsEntry) to check configured peak and sustained cell rate values for a given VC, such as caqVccParamsPcrIn0/caqVccParamsPcrOut0 for incoming/outgoing peak cell rate and caqVccParamsScrIn0/caqVccParamsScrOut0 for sustained cell rate. Comparing caqVccParamsType against the configured service category alongside caqVccParamsBcsIn0 (burst cell size) helps confirm whether a VC's shaping profile matches provisioned traffic contracts. Anomalous or zero values in these objects across many VCs could reveal a QoS misconfiguration or a template applied incorrectly. Notifications surface via ciscoAtmQosMIBNotifs if QoS-related conditions change.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using caqVpcParamsDataVcCount OID:

Select a Cisco ATM switches/router (QoS) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type caqVpcParamsDataVcCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of data VCs currently associated with the permanent virtual path. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
