What Is CALIX-E7-SELT-LINE-MIB?

CALIX-E7-SELT-LINE-MIB is a Calix Networks enterprise MIB (under the e7 branch, imported from CALIX-PRODUCT-MIB) that exposes Single-Ended Line Test (SELT) diagnostics for xDSL lines on Calix E7 GPON/DSL broadband access platforms. Its e7XdslSeltLineTable, indexed by ifIndex for interfaces with ifType xdslSelt(9), carries upstream/downstream margin and tone-count estimates, capacity-rate estimates, best-fit loop type and length, fit error, and the command/status objects (e7XdslSeltLineCmndConfLdsf, e7XdslSeltLineCmndConfLdsfFailReason) used to force and monitor a Loop Diagnostics (LDSF) test run. Results of a completed test are reported in e7SeltReportStatusTable, keyed by ifIndex and a best-fit index, with round-trip delay/error, attenuation samples at 300kHz/180kHz/1MHz and end-of-range, termination phase, transfer function, and the frequency range covered by the test. Together these tables let a technician remotely characterize a copper loop's length, quality, and reflection profile without a truck roll, which is central to diagnosing DSL sync or rate problems before or after provisioning. It depends on the underlying ifTable entry for the DSL port and on the E7 chassis being a Calix E7 GPON/DSL access platform, and administrators can download the CALIX-E7-SELT-LINE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CALIX-E7-SELT-LINE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Calix E7 GPON/DSL broadband access platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator sets e7XdslSeltLineCmndConfLdsf to force(1) on a subscriber's DSL line, then polls e7XdslSeltLineCmndConfLdsfFailReason until it reports success(2), and reads e7SeltReportStatusTable's e7SeltRoundTripDelay/e7SeltFitError and e7XdslLoopLength; an unusually short estimated loop length paired with a high fit error would suggest a bridged tap or wiring fault rather than simple distance-related attenuation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • upstream/downstream margin and tone-count estimates
  • loop type/length and fit-error estimates
  • SELT test command/status (LDSF force and fail reason)
  • round-trip delay/error and multi-frequency attenuation samples
  • SELT report validity and frequency range covered

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using e7XdslUsMargin OID:

Select a Calix E7 GPON/DSL broadband access platform as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type e7XdslUsMargin into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the upstream margin measured by the line's Single-Ended Line Test (SELT). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the margin drops below the level expected for a healthy line, since low margin often precedes line errors or a lost sync. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
