Description: Manages quad serial interface module (QSIM) port configuration on C-PRODUCT devices.

What Is C-PRODUCT-QSIM-MIB?

C-PRODUCT-QSIM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB that manages the Quad Serial Interface Module (QSIM), a WAN interface card fitted into the C-PRODUCT series modular network platform, alongside a related "hsim" (high-speed serial interface module) port. It exposes per-card and per-port configuration and status data covering link type, cable type, clocking/timing source, data rate, and framing parameters for each serial WAN port. In monitoring terms it is used to verify hardware configuration correctness of installed serial interface cards and ports -- confirming the expected cable and link type are detected, the timing source is correctly set (internal vs. line-derived), and the configured data rate matches the provisioned circuit -- issues here are a classic cause of WAN link flaps or framing errors. It works alongside the base C-PRODUCT-BASE-L-SPECIFIC MIB and standard interface conventions (IF-MIB) for full device management. It would typically be deployed on modular chassis routers/switches used for serial WAN connectivity such as leased-line or frame relay circuits. Engineers can download the C-PRODUCT-QSIM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in C-PRODUCT-QSIM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • modular chassis network router/switch (C-PRODUCT series) with QSIM/HSIM serial WAN cards
  • 3Com PathBuilder S600 WAN access switch (QSIM/HSIM serial WAN interface modules)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll qsimPortTable/qsimPortEntry objects such as qsimPortLinkType, qsimPortCableType, qsimPortTermTimingSource, qsimPortDataRate, and qsimPortFcsSize to confirm each serial port's provisioned settings match the physical circuit it's connected to. A mismatch between qsimPortCableType (detected) and the expected cable, or an unexpected qsimPortTermTimingSource, is a common root cause of intermittent WAN link errors or clock slips. qsimCardTable's qsimCardMaxFrameSize would also be checked when troubleshooting fragmentation or oversized-frame drops on the card.

What Can Be Monitored

  • serial port link type
  • cable type detected
  • timing source configuration
  • port data rate
  • frame check sequence size
  • card maximum frame size
