Description: Manages optical layer parameters and wavelength configuration on BTI Systems optical networking equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BTI-OL-MIB?

This is a BTI Systems enterprise MIB for managing the optical layer of BTI's dynamic optical networking platforms, covering components such as DLA-series optical amplifiers and ROB-series ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) modules. It exposes configuration objects for optical groups and equipment, including group type/custom labeling fields and equipment/cp-type indices, plus dedicated performance and OSC (Optical Supervisory Channel) event-notification branches. It supports monitoring the hardware health and operational status of optical amplifier and ROADM modules, including performance data on the optical layer and fault events raised over the optical supervisory channel, which are key indicators of degraded fiber links or failing optical components. It is a self-contained vendor MIB specific to BTI's optical hardware, without an evident dependency on IETF optical MIBs. It is deployed in metro/long-haul DWDM transport networks using BTI optical transport platforms, where network operations centers poll optical group/equipment tables and subscribe to OSC event traps to catch amplifier or ROADM degradation before it causes service loss. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the BTI-OL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BTI-OL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BTI Systems optical amplifier (DLA-series)
  • BTI Systems ROADM module (ROB-series)

Monitoring Examples

An operator queries olGroupTable/olGroupEntry rows, indexed by olGroupIdx, to see olGroupType and olGroupId for each configured optical group, and olEqptTable/olEqptEntry for equipment identified by olEqptCpTypeIdx to check amplifier or ROADM module status. Data under olPerformance would be polled for optical-layer performance trends, while a rise in events reported via olOSCEvtNotifications would flag a supervisory-channel fault such as amplifier gain drift or ROADM module failure. Provisioning changes to a group are tracked through olGroupRowStatus and merge operations via olGroupMerge.

What Can Be Monitored

  • optical group configuration
  • equipment/amplifier status
  • optical performance metrics
  • OSC (optical supervisory channel) fault events
  • ROADM module status
