Category: Device Management

Description: Defines basic standard protocol options for WAN interface configuration on multi-protocol routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BSTD-OPT-MIB?

BSTD-OPT-MIB is a proprietary MIB (associated with Cabletron/Cajun 'cdx' equipment naming based on its sample objects) defining basic standard protocol option groups for WAN interface configuration on multi-protocol routers, specifically referencing CDX 6500-series port protocol groups. It exposes configuration objects that let an administrator select or verify which WAN protocol options (e.g., PPP, Frame Relay, or similar) are enabled on specific physical or synchronous/asynchronous ports of the device. Its monitoring value is chiefly configuration-status visibility: confirming which protocol group is bound to a given port helps verify that a WAN link is configured with the intended protocol stack, and detecting an unexpected protocol group assignment can explain why a circuit isn't establishing a link. It appears to be a companion configuration MIB to the broader CDX 6500 platform's port/interface MIBs rather than a standalone data source. It was typically deployed on CDX 6500-series multi-protocol routers/WAN access devices in enterprise and carrier WAN environments. Engineers can download the BSTD-OPT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BSTD-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Motorola Codex 6500-series data/statistical multiplexer (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup to confirm which WAN protocol group is currently bound to a given synchronous or asynchronous port on a CDX 6500 device. A port showing a protocol group inconsistent with the intended WAN service (e.g., configured for the wrong protocol group after a card swap) would reveal why the link is failing to establish. This MIB is a configuration-reference module rather than a source of live performance counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • WAN port protocol group assignment
  • protocol configuration per port
