Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: Foundry/Brocade

Description: Manages BRRP (Brocade Router Redundancy Protocol) virtual router configuration and failover state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BRRP-MIB?

BRRP-MIB defines the Brocade Router Redundancy Protocol, a VRRP-like proprietary gateway-redundancy protocol used on Brocade/Foundry-descended Layer 3 switches and routers. No sample objects or module description were provided in the source, but by design such a MIB manages virtual router group membership, priority, and current master/backup role. It is relevant mainly to control-plane/software health monitoring -- tracking which router in a redundancy group currently holds the master role reveals failover events, and unexpected role flapping would indicate a configuration or link problem rather than a hardware sensor reading. It conceptually parallels the IETF standard VRRP MIB (RFC 2787/6527) despite being a Brocade-proprietary implementation. It would typically be deployed on paired Brocade/Foundry Layer 3 switches providing redundant default-gateway service at a network edge. Engineers can download the BRRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BRRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • bintec BIANCA/BRICK ISDN/VPN routers (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were supplied for this module, so specific object names cannot be confirmed from source; a typical BRRP deployment involves polling virtual-router-group role and priority to determine which device currently holds master status, flagging an unplanned failover (backup becoming master) as an anomaly. This description is grounded in BRRP's known purpose as a VRRP analog rather than in confirmed object names.

What Can Be Monitored

  • virtual router group role (master/backup)
  • redundancy group priority
  • failover/role transition events
