Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: ACC/Ericsson

Description: Manages OSPF routing protocol configuration on ACC/Ericsson routers, including area definitions, interface parameters, and neighbor adjacency settings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ACC-OSPF?

ACC-OSPF is a proprietary enterprise MIB originally from Advanced Computer Communications (ACC), whose BRG router product line and MIB branch (accBRG) were carried forward under Ericsson following ACC's acquisition, matching the vendor's ACC/Ericsson lineage. It supplies proprietary extensions layered on top of the standard OSPF-MIB (RFC 1850): per-area, per-interface, and per-neighbor diagnostic message-level tables (accOspfAreaTable, accOspfIfTable, accOspfNbrTable) that control how verbose OSPF's internal logging is for a given area/interface/neighbor, and an OSPF export/route-redistribution policy table (accOspfExportTable) that matches routes by protocol, network, and mask and either exports or blocks them into the OSPF domain with a configurable metric and tag. The bulk of the module, however, is a large set of enterprise TRAP-TYPE definitions covering internal OSPF failure and misconfiguration conditions — memory-allocation failures for various OSPF timers and data structures, invalid area/interface configuration attempts (e.g., setting NBMA-only options on point-to-point interfaces, configuring an ASBR in a stub area, or misconfiguring the backbone as non-transit), and virtual-link/transit-area problems — each carrying a severity, event type, and descriptive trap message. This makes the MIB primarily useful for capturing detailed OSPF control-plane fault notifications rather than for steady-state traffic monitoring. It depends on the standard OSPF-MIB for the base OSPF objects it references and extends. It is deployed on ACC/Ericsson BRG-family routers running OSPF, and administrators can download the ACC-OSPF file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ACC-OSPF. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ACC/Ericsson BRG-family routers running OSPF

Monitoring Examples

An operator subscribes to accOspfEnableAreaTrap and accOspfCreateAreaTrap notifications on a BRG router and, upon receiving one, reads accOspfTrapMsg together with the associated ospfAreaId to identify which OSPF area failed to enable, typically due to a memory-allocation shortage; repeated occurrences of the same area-enable trap after a configuration change would point to a resource exhaustion issue on the router rather than a one-off transient fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-area/interface/neighbor OSPF diagnostic message level
  • OSPF export/redistribution policy table entries
  • OSPF area/interface/virtual-link failure traps
  • route export action, metric, and tag
  • trap message text and associated OSPF object references
