Category: ATM, MPLS and Traffic Engineering

Description: Augments ATM ATOM (Any Transport over MPLS) tables for BroadNet ATM network management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BNET-ATM-ATOM-AUG-MIB?

BNET-ATM-ATOM-AUG-MIB is a Bay Networks (later Nortel) vendor-specific MIB that augments the standard ATM Forum tables with device-specific detail for Bay Networks ATM switches and routers. It adds the bnetAtmDeviceAtmAddr scalar identifying the device's primary ATM address, the bnetAtmLearnAddrs control for automatic address learning into the ATM/VCL binding tables, and the atmfAddressClientTable (indexed by atmfAddressPort and atmfAddressAtmAddress) which describes each ATM Forum address client's type (turbo, circuit-saver, LES, BUS, LECS, SPVC, etc.) and active call count. It also defines the bnetAtmSoftPVccExtnTable, which augments the standard atmSoftPVccTable with the circuit ID (bnetAtmSoftPVccCircuitId) for each Soft Permanent Virtual Channel Connection on switch ports. Because it only supplements the base ATM/ATM-Forum-Address-Registration MIBs, it must be loaded alongside ATM-MIB, ATM-TC-MIB, and ATM-FORUM-ADDR-REG rather than standing alone, and is deployed on legacy Bay Networks ATM switching platforms; for teams still managing this hardware, this BNET-ATM-ATOM-AUG-MIB reference clarifies what each augmentation object represents in the SoftPVCC and address-client tables.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BNET-ATM-ATOM-AUG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Bay Networks / Nortel ATM switches and routers (legacy Centillion/Bay Networks ATM product lines)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls atmfAddressClientTable to see how many active calls (atmfAddressClientCallCount) are associated with each ATM Forum client address, and cross-references bnetAtmSoftPVccExtnTable's bnetAtmSoftPVccCircuitId for a given ifIndex/VPI/VCI to confirm the expected Soft PVCC circuit is provisioned; a missing or zero circuit ID where a Soft PVCC should exist would indicate the soft connection failed to establish.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM device address configuration
  • ATM address-learning mode
  • ATM Forum address client type and call count
  • Soft PVCC circuit ID mapping
  • per-port/VPI/VCI Soft PVCC entries
