Description: Manages switching fabric configuration and forwarding tables on HP BladeSystem Type 2 blade switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BLADETYPE2-SWITCH-MIB?
BLADETYPE2-SWITCH-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for the embedded Ethernet switch module used in HP BladeSystem Type 2 c-Class blade enclosures, in the data-center blade-server networking technology area. It exposes both switching-fabric configuration (per-port operational state, forwarding, RMON hooks, and 802.1x authentication) and hardware inventory/health objects such as part number, hardware revision, power supply status, and an onboard temperature sensor. It plays a clear role in hardware status monitoring through hwPowerSupplyStatus and hwSensor1Temp, letting an operator detect a failing power supply or overheating switch blade, in addition to tracking per-port link/operational state. It implicitly relies on general RMON conventions (via portOperRmon) and standard 802.1x concepts for port-level authentication state. It is typically deployed as the internal switch/interconnect blade within an HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure. Engineers can download the BLADETYPE2-SWITCH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BLADETYPE2-SWITCH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP BladeSystem c-Class Type 2 blade switch/interconnect module
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hwPowerSupplyStatus and hwSensor1Temp to catch an early power-supply failure or thermal excursion inside the enclosure, and walk agPortOperTable (via agPortOperTableEntry/portOperIdx) to check portOperState for each internal blade-facing port. A port stuck down in portOperState combined with an abnormal hwSensor1Temp reading would point to a blade or switch-module hardware problem rather than a simple link issue.
What Can Be Monitored
- power supply status
- onboard temperature sensor reading
- per-port operational/link state
- hardware part number and revision
- 802.1x port authentication state
