Description: Monitors CPU process utilization and task scheduling statistics on BDCOM network switch/router platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BDCOM-PROCESS-MIB?
BDCOM-PROCESS-MIB is a BDCOM enterprise MIB for tracking active system processes and CPU utilization on BDCOM network switch/router platforms. It exposes a CPU utilization table reporting total CPU usage over 5-second, 1-minute, and 5-minute intervals per physical CPU, plus a process table listing each running process's PID, name, and priority. Its purpose is direct software/hardware health monitoring of the device's control-plane: sustained high values in bdpmCPUTotal5sec/1min/5min indicate CPU overload that can degrade routing/switching performance, while the process table lets an administrator identify which specific task (by bdpmProcessName) is consuming resources or has crashed/restarted. It follows the common Cisco-style CPU/process MIB pattern but is BDCOM's own private implementation with no direct dependency on a standard IETF MIB. It is typically deployed on BDCOM switches and routers in service-provider and enterprise access networks to detect control-plane overload before it affects forwarding performance. Engineers can download the BDCOM-PROCESS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BDCOM-PROCESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BDCOM network switch/router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls bdpmCPUTotalTable (bdpmCPUTotalEntry: bdpmCPUTotalIndex, bdpmCPUTotalPhysicalIndex, bdpmCPUTotal5sec, bdpmCPUTotal1min, bdpmCPUTotal5min) to trend CPU load over time and set alarm thresholds on sustained high 5-minute utilization. If an alarm fires, the admin cross-references bdpmProcessTable (bdpmProcessEntry: bdpmProcessPID, bdpmProcessName, bdpmProcessPriority) to identify which process is responsible for the spike, revealing whether the cause is a software bug, a routing flap causing excessive recalculation, or a runaway management session.
What Can Be Monitored
- CPU utilization (5-second/1-minute/5-minute averages)
- per-physical-CPU load
- running process list (PID, name)
- process priority
- process-level resource consumption
