Description: Manages broadcast conditional access SimulCrypt multiplexer ECM stream routing and CA system configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BCSSIMULCRYPTMUX-MIB?
BCSSIMULCRYPTMUX-MIB is a Motorola Broadband Communications Sector (BCS) enterprise MIB for digital broadcast head-end equipment implementing the Simulcrypt standard, which allows multiple conditional-access (CA) systems to share a single encrypted multiplex. It manages the SimulCrypt Multiplexer's network configuration (TCP/UDP ports, bandwidth allocation, channel test rate) and its EMMG (Entitlement Management Message Generator) interface connections, including per-EMMG channel and stream capacity limits and connection state tracking. Its monitoring focus is on the software/connection health of the CA multiplexing pipeline: whether EMMG TCP sessions are established (bcsSimMuxEmmgTcpState), whether configured channel/stream capacity is being respected, and whether MIB feature support status matches the deployed firmware, rather than physical hardware sensors, since a broken EMMG connection directly disrupts entitlement message delivery and can affect subscriber descrambling. It builds on the DVB Simulcrypt specification for CA interoperability, an industry standard referenced by this vendor implementation. It is deployed in digital cable/satellite headend facilities where multiple conditional-access vendors' EMMGs feed a shared Motorola multiplexer. Engineers can download the BCSSIMULCRYPTMUX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BCSSIMULCRYPTMUX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Motorola BCS SimulCrypt Multiplexer (digital broadcast headend equipment)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll bcsSimMuxEmmgTable entries -- bcsSimMuxEmmgIndex and bcsSimMuxEmmgTcpState -- to verify each configured EMMG client's TCP connection to the multiplexer remains established; a state other than connected for a given EMMG index means that CA system's entitlement messages are not reaching the mux. Cross-checking bcsSimMuxMaxEmmgChannels and bcsSimMuxMaxEmmgChannelStreams against actual configured channel counts, alongside bcsSimMuxBandwidthAllocation, would reveal whether the multiplexer is near its EMMG channel/stream capacity limits before a new CA system can be onboarded.
What Can Be Monitored
- EMMG TCP connection state
- EMMG channel/stream capacity limits
- bandwidth allocation
- channel test rate
- TCP/UDP port configuration
- MIB feature support status
