What Is BCS-TRAPS-MIB?

BCS-TRAPS-MIB is a Belden/Hirschmann module defining common SNMP trap (notification) objects for the BCS family of industrial Ethernet switches. Rather than exposing polled data tables, its purpose is to standardize the format and payload of fault and state-change trap notifications sent by these switches, such as link state changes, device resets, or configuration changes. Its monitoring value lies in event-driven fault detection: it lets a network management station receive asynchronous alerts about hardware or software state changes on the switch — such as a redundant power supply failing, a port going down, or the device rebooting — without needing to poll continuously. It is a companion/trap-definition module intended to be used alongside other BCS device/hardware MIBs that define the actual status objects referenced within trap varbinds. It is deployed in industrial automation and process-control networks where Belden/Hirschmann BCS-series managed switches provide ruggedized Ethernet connectivity. Engineers can download the BCS-TRAPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BCS-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Belden/Hirschmann BCS-series industrial Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module, so exact trap object names cannot be confirmed from the source, but as a "common trap objects" module it would define generic notification objects referenced by fault and state-change traps across the BCS switch line. A network management station would subscribe to these traps to be alerted in real time when, for example, a switch reboots unexpectedly or a monitored hardware condition changes, rather than relying on periodic polling. This description is necessarily general given the absence of concrete object names in the source.
