Category: Network Interfaces

Description: Manages asynchronous serial interface configuration and statistics on routers and terminal servers, covering RS-232 port settings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASYNC-MIB?

ASYNC-MIB is a private MIB (importing SCANET-MIB, consistent with Xyplex/MRV terminal-server product lines) configuring PCMCIA-based asynchronous modem interfaces. Its configuration table, keyed by interface index, covers dial mode, auto-initialization behavior, the dial string, and up to two modem initialization strings, alongside a separate monitoring table. As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm a PCMCIA async interface's dial and init strings are correctly provisioned before troubleshooting a dial-out failure. It is deployed on terminal server or access-router platforms with PCMCIA async-modem interface slots. Engineers can download the ASYNC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASYNC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Terminal server/access-router platforms with PCMCIA asynchronous modem interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks asyncConfigDialString and asyncConfigInitString1 for an interface failing to establish outbound modem calls, confirming the dial and initialization strings match the attached modem's requirements.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCMCIA async interface dial mode and initialization strings
