Category: Telephony and VoIP, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent
Description: Manages VoIP call routing, dial plan, and media processing on Ascend telephony gateway equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ASCEND-VOIP-MIB?
This is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB managing VoIP call routing, dial plan, and media processing on Ascend telephony gateway equipment. It exposes configuration for call routing rules, dial plans, and voice media/DSP processing parameters used to convert between circuit-switched and packet voice. It supports monitoring software/hardware status relevant to voice gateway health — such as call routing table state and media resource (DSP) utilization — which indicates whether the gateway can successfully place and sustain VoIP calls. It generally works alongside standard telephony MIB concepts as an Ascend-specific extension. It is deployed on Ascend VoIP gateways used by carriers/enterprises to bridge PSTN and IP telephony networks. Engineers can download the ASCEND-VOIP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-VOIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ascend VoIP telephony gateway
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were captured for this module, but a VoIP MIB of this kind typically exposes a call routing/dial-plan table (an ascendVoip*Table/Entry pattern) and DSP resource status objects. An administrator would poll DSP resource utilization to detect exhaustion of media processing channels, which would explain a spike in call setup failures during peak hours.
What Can Be Monitored
- call routing/dial plan configuration
- DSP media resource utilization
- call processing status
