Category: ATM, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages ATM port parameters, traffic shaping, and cell-level statistics on Ascend equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBATMPORT-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBATMPORT-MIB is a proprietary Ascend module governing ATM port-level parameters, traffic shaping, and cell-level statistics on Ascend's ATM switching and access equipment. It exposes port configuration (line rate, shaping profiles, port type) together with performance counters at the ATM cell level, distinct from the interface-level data in the companion ATMIF module. From a monitoring standpoint it supports checking hardware status of physical ATM ports (enabled/disabled, signal state) and traffic-shaping effectiveness, helping detect cell discard or congestion caused by misconfigured shaping. It is a vendor-specific complement to, rather than a direct extension of, IETF ATM standards. It is deployed on ATM switches and multiservice access concentrators in carrier and large-enterprise ATM backbones. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBATMPORT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBATMPORT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend ATM switch
  • Ascend multiservice access concentrator

Monitoring Examples

No sample object list was provided for this module, so the following is a general inference from its stated purpose. An administrator would check ATM port entries for shaping-rate settings and cell discard counters, and would treat rising discards alongside a saturated shaping rate as a sign the port needs re-provisioning. This data is normally reviewed together with the ATM interface MIB to distinguish port-level from logical-interface-level issues.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM port operational state
  • traffic shaping profile
  • cell discard counts
  • port line rate
