Description: Manages ATM signalling protocol configuration and statistics for DEC ATM network equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DEC-ATM-SIGNALLING-MIB?

DEC-ATM-SIGNALLING-MIB is a legacy Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) MIB for monitoring ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) signalling protocol operation, specifically the Q.2931 call-control signalling used to establish ATM virtual circuits. It exposes per-interface signalling configuration (decSignallingConfigTable, decAtmSignallingMode) and message-level statistics through decQ2931MsgTable, counting specific Q.2931 message types transmitted and received, such as call proceeding, connect, and connect acknowledge messages. For monitoring purposes this is primarily a protocol-performance/fault MIB: administrators track message counters (callProceedingTx/Rx, connectTx/Rx, connectAcknowledgeTx/Rx) to detect signalling failures, stalled call setups, or abnormal retransmission patterns on ATM links, rather than general hardware sensors like temperature or power. It builds on standard ATM signalling concepts (Q.2931/UNI) and would be used alongside broader ATM interface MIBs (e.g., ATM-MIB) for a complete picture of the ATM subsystem. This MIB reflects an older technology generation and would be found on legacy DEC/Digital ATM switching or routing equipment from the 1990s-2000s era, where DEC-ATM-SIGNALLING-MIB SNMP monitoring remains relevant for tracking Q.2931 call-control health on surviving deployments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DEC-ATM-SIGNALLING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • DEC/Digital ATM switches and routers (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer troubleshooting slow or failing ATM circuit establishment would poll decQ2931MsgTable, comparing callProceedingTx/Rx and connectTx/Rx counts per decAtmSignallingIndex to see whether call setup messages are being sent but not acknowledged. A growing gap between connectTx and connectAcknowledgeRx on a given interface would indicate the remote endpoint is not completing call setup, pointing to a signalling or connectivity fault on that ATM link. decAtmSignallingMode would be checked to confirm the interface is configured for the expected UNI signalling variant.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Q.2931 call setup message counts (proceeding, connect, connect-ack)
  • signalling mode configuration
  • per-interface signalling statistics
