Description: Monitors power supply unit status, input voltage, and redundancy on Aruba CX switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARUBAWIRED-POWERSUPPLY-MIB?

ARUBAWIRED-POWERSUPPLY-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for HPE Aruba CX wired switches, dedicated to managing and monitoring power supply units (PSUs) installed in the chassis. It exposes per-PSU hardware inventory (product name, serial number) and operational data such as state, instantaneous and maximum power draw, failure counts, and airflow direction. Its monitoring relevance is squarely hardware health monitoring: it directly reports power supply status/state, detects redundancy loss when one PSU in a redundant pair fails, and tracks cumulative failure counts and power draw trends that can predict impending PSU issues. It works alongside ENTITY-MIB style physical inventory concepts, indexing PSUs by group and slot. It is deployed wherever Aruba CX switches with redundant or hot-swappable power supplies are installed, particularly in core/aggregation switches where power redundancy is critical. Engineers can download the ARUBAWIRED-POWERSUPPLY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARUBAWIRED-POWERSUPPLY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aruba CX wired switch (ArubaOS-CX)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll arubaWiredPowerSupplyTable/Entry indexed by arubaWiredPSUGroupIndex and arubaWiredPSUSlotIndex, checking arubaWiredPSUState for each arubaWiredPSUName to confirm all PSUs report healthy, and watching arubaWiredPSUNumberFailures for a nonzero or increasing count. arubaWiredPSUInstantaneousPower compared against arubaWiredPSUMaximumPower reveals whether the switch is approaching its power budget, while arubaWiredPSUAirflowDirection helps validate correct front-to-back/back-to-front airflow matching in a hot-aisle/cold-aisle data center. A PSU transitioning to a failed state should trigger arubaWiredPSUNotifications so the NMS can alert on lost power redundancy before a second failure causes an outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • power supply operational state
  • instantaneous power draw
  • maximum rated power
  • PSU failure count
  • airflow direction
  • PSU serial number/product identity

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using arubaWiredPSUInstantaneousPower OID:

Select an Aruba (HPE) ArubaOS-CX wired switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type arubaWiredPSUInstantaneousPower into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total instantaneous power supplied by the power supply in Watts. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
