Organization: Cisco Systems, Inc.

Last Updated: 2005-10-01

Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment, Textual Conventions and Registries

Description: Defines textual conventions for Cisco entity redundancy MIBs, providing data types for redundancy roles and switchover reasons.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ENTITY-REDUNDANCY-TC-MIB?

CISCO-ENTITY-REDUNDANCY-TC-MIB is a textual-convention MIB that defines shared data types used across Cisco's family of entity-redundancy MIBs, such as enumerations for redundancy roles (active/standby) and switchover reason codes. It contains no scalars, tables, or notifications of its own; it exists purely to standardize how redundancy-related concepts are represented in other MIBs. Consequently it has no direct monitoring role covering uptime, hardware health, or software status; that data is reported by the MIBs (e.g., CISCO-RF-MIB or platform-specific redundancy MIBs) that import these textual conventions. Its defining relationship is as a dependency for other Cisco redundancy-related MIBs, which import its type definitions. It is used implicitly wherever Cisco redundant-supervisor or dual-RP platforms report failover role and switchover-reason data via SNMP, making this CISCO-ENTITY-REDUNDANCY-TC-MIB reference a necessary companion for interpreting those values correctly.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ENTITY-REDUNDANCY-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router/switch with redundant supervisor or route processor hardware

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only TEXTUAL-CONVENTION type declarations (e.g., redundancy role and switchover reason enumerations) with no accompanying tables or scalars, so there are no objects here to poll or monitor directly. Consuming MIBs that import these conventions, such as those tracking active/standby role and last-switchover cause, would be the actual source of monitorable redundancy data. This module's role is purely to provide the shared vocabulary those MIBs use.
