Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management, Hardware and Environment, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capabilities for process and CPU utilization monitoring on Cisco IOS and NX-OS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-PROCESS-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-PROCESS-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that declares which parts of the CISCO-PROCESS-MIB a given Cisco IOS or NX-OS agent implementation actually supports, rather than defining any data objects of its own. It exposes no tables, scalars, or notifications for monitoring; instead it is metadata consumed by SNMP management tools to determine feature/object support level for process and CPU utilization monitoring on a specific platform or software release. It therefore has no direct role in exposing hardware/software runtime status itself - its purpose is entirely about declaring compliance with the CISCO-PROCESS-MIB standard, which is the MIB that actually provides CPU/process load data. It has an explicit and total dependency on CISCO-PROCESS-MIB, whose object definitions it references and constrains support for. It is typically used internally by NMS/SNMP tooling and MIB compilers to determine which CISCO-PROCESS-MIB objects are safe to poll against a given Cisco device's software version, rather than being polled directly by an admin, since the CISCO-PROCESS-CAPABILITY MIB itself defines no monitorable data of its own.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-PROCESS-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS and NX-OS network devices (conformance declaration only, not device-specific data)

Monitoring Examples

As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, CISCO-PROCESS-CAPABILITY defines no runtime data objects (no tables, scalars, or notifications) and cannot itself be polled for monitoring data; it only declares which objects and groups of the companion CISCO-PROCESS-MIB (such as CPU/process utilization tables) are implemented on a given device/software release.
