Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch virtual chassis MIB for managing chassis virtualization, member roles, and failover topology.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALCATEL-IND1-VIRTUAL-CHASSIS-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-VIRTUAL-CHASSIS-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds Of Prey) enterprise MIB that manages chassis virtualization, the feature that lets multiple physical switches operate and be managed as one logical chassis. It supplements IETF's Entity MIB (RFC 2737) with Alcatel-specific objects covering virtual chassis groups, per-member configured and operational chassis IDs, member role (e.g., master/slave), and role-history tracking. Its core monitoring purpose is hardware/software topology health: confirming which unit holds the master role, detecting unexpected role changes or failovers, and verifying configured versus operational priority and chassis ID consistency across members. It explicitly extends and complements the IETF Entity MIB rather than duplicating its physical-inventory data. It is used in OmniSwitch stacking/virtual-chassis deployments in campus and data-center environments where high availability across multiple physical units is required. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-VIRTUAL-CHASSIS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-VIRTUAL-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds Of Prey product line, virtual chassis/stacking)

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls virtualChassisGlobalTable/virtualChassisGlobalEntry to read virtualChassisOperChasId and virtualChassisRole for each member, comparing against virtualChassisConfigChassisId and virtualChassisConfigPriority to spot misconfiguration. A change from virtualChassisRole to a value differing from virtualChassisPreviousRole indicates a failover event, which combined with virtualChassisStatus and trap data under virtualChassisTrapInfo would alert on an unplanned master/slave role swap. This lets operators confirm the virtual chassis is stable and correctly prioritized before a real hardware failure forces an unplanned switchover.

What Can Be Monitored

  • member role (master/slave)
  • previous vs. current role changes
  • operational vs. configured chassis ID
  • chassis priority
  • virtual chassis group membership
  • chassis status/failover traps
