What Is ALCATEL-IND1-MULTI-CHASSIS-MIB?
ALCATEL-IND1-MULTI-CHASSIS-MIB is Alcatel's proprietary OmniSwitch MIB for Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation (MC-LAG), enabling two physical chassis to act as a single logical switch for uplink redundancy. It exposes configuration objects such as chassis ID, hello interval, inter-chassis-protocol VLAN, and chassis group, alongside operational-state mirrors reporting the actual running chassis ID, role (primary/secondary), operational status, and chassis type. This is a hardware/software-state MIB in the sense that it directly monitors the health and role of the multi-chassis peering relationship — whether the peer link (IPC VLAN) is up, which chassis is currently acting as primary, and whether a loop-detection condition has been triggered. It's used alongside ALCATEL-IND1-CHASSIS-MIB for chassis/CMM redundancy and ALCATEL-IND1-HA-VLAN-MIB for uplink redundancy, as part of a broader OmniSwitch high-availability MIB family. It's deployed in Alcatel/Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch pairs configured for MC-LAG to provide loop-free, dual-homed connectivity to downstream devices or servers, and network engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-MULTI-CHASSIS-MIB file to load into a MIB browser for reference during configuration.

Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll multiChassisOperStatus and multiChassisOperChassisRole to confirm both chassis in an MC-LAG pair see the peering session up and agree on which one is primary versus secondary. multiChassisOperHelloInterval and multiChassisOperIpcVlan are checked against their configured counterparts, multiChassisConfigHelloInterval and multiChassisConfigIpcVlan, to catch a misconfigured inter-chassis link that could cause a split-brain condition. The multiChassisLoopDetection object is monitored for a triggered loop condition, which typically indicates a cabling error created an unintended loop between the two chassis.
