Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch learned port security MIB for managing MAC address learning limits and violation actions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALCATEL-IND1-LPS-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-LPS-MIB is Alcatel's "IND1" enterprise MIB (for the OmniSwitch "Birds of Prey" product line) that manages Learned Port Security (LPS), a switch-port feature that limits and controls which MAC addresses are permitted to communicate on a given port. It exposes a per-port configuration and status table covering the maximum number of MAC addresses allowed to be learned, an acceptable MAC address range, the action to take on a security violation, and administrative/operational status for the feature on each port. Its monitoring value is primarily software/security status at the port level: administrators can check lpsOperStatus to confirm the feature is actively enforcing on a port, and use lpsRowStatus together with violation counters/settings to detect when a port has hit its learned-MAC limit or triggered a violation action (such as shutting the port down). It depends on the standard ifIndex convention from IF-MIB to associate LPS settings with physical switch ports. This MIB is deployed on Alcatel (now Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise) OmniSwitch Ethernet switches in enterprise LAN environments needing port-level MAC address access control. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-LPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-LPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel/Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise OmniSwitch Ethernet switches (Birds of Prey product line)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll learnedPortSecurityTable (learnedPortSecurityEntry) to check lpsMaxMacNum against the current learned-address count and confirm lpsAdminStatus/lpsOperStatus show the feature enabled and running on a given port. Reviewing lpsViolationOption reveals what action (e.g., port shutdown, drop, trap) will occur if lpsMaxFilteredMacNum is exceeded, and lpsLoMacRange/lpsHiMacRange define which MAC ranges are permitted. A port whose lpsOperStatus unexpectedly shows down alongside a security-violation trap would indicate an unauthorized device attempted to exceed the learned-MAC limit on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • max MAC addresses allowed per port
  • learned MAC address range
  • violation action configured
  • admin/operational status of port security
  • row status of security entries
